Our Story

Better Story was founded in the wake of the 2025 Unite the Kingdom rally. Our founders were all working with refugees as part of the Christian call to welcome strangers, and these refugees did not feel safe on the streets of London because of the rally. Therefore, our founders attended the counter-protest.

They found the day difficult for two reasons. Firstly, because of the Christian language and symbols used by protestors who were simultaneously calling for a banning of other religions and mass deportations. And secondly because, as Christians, they felt they were not able to love those they disagreed with through counter-protest.

Better Story was set up to develop a network of Christians who want to respond to the rise in the Far Right in ways that show love to our neighbours and to those with whom we disagree. This has included organising the churches response to Tommy Robinson's Christmas carol service & co-ordinating the Christian bloc at the largest anti-racist demonstration in British history; attending anti-migrant and nationalist protests to listen to protestors and build relationships across difference; appearing on a wide variety of Christian and secular news platforms to discuss a public theology that is rooted in love and compassion.

 

We are now a non-profit company limited by guarantee with a board of experts (whose names are not listed for security reasons but include church leadership, experts in depolarisation, and experts in campaigning). We work across a range of church traditions and have previously worked on projects with the Church of England, the Methodists, the URC, the Jesuit's and a number of Baptist churches.
